Guinea pig Revolution mites

Today Hammy had a checkup with the nice folks at South Gate Animal Clinic in Milwaukie, Oregon.

The Happy Cavies have been itchy and scratchy the past week, mites being the usual suspects.

After a thorough examination of the Good Ham, and tape specimin which was inconclusive, the vet sent Hammy home with enough doses of Revolution mite medicine for and her sisters.

Each HappyCavy will get a topical dose of Revolution which will be applied directly to the skin between their ears. (Each syringe in the above photo equals a single dose.)

Hammy, Bitsy, Feebee, and Buttercup will receive 1 dose every 10 to 14 days with 3 doses total for each pig.

1 dose per pig x 4 pigs x 3 doses = 12 syringes

Each cavy received her first dose today. They will each get their last dose April 24.

Hasta la vista, Itchies!!

Revolution and Ivermectin and only administered under a vet’s orders (in USA, not sure about other countries). These medicines are almost always prescribed for parasites (i.e., mites), and dosages are very small, making it difficult to properly dose a guinea pig at home, even if you could get it over the counter.

My Bubbles, scratches a bit every now and then but I don’t think she has mites. The vet only said maybe (she was unsure) last time I got her checked. Do they scratch severely every time to confirm they got mites?

Not sure what you mean by “to confirm they got mites”? Severity may vary, but excessive itching (“digging” deep, a scratch which lasts longer than a few seconds) may be a symptom of mites.

Which revolution do you use? For puppies and kittens less than 2.5kg? Can i use for dogs from 5to10lbs, because i have a puppy which weight its 7.8lbs and i want to treat them all with that same one?
